SPECIAL SCHOOL VISIT

“THE AMAZING KIDS: Every child is a gift to humanity, but they unwrap at different timings.” 

Psychology students of classes 11 and 12  along with Ms.Tena Susan Ipe visited  KOINONIA MOR ATHANASIUS REHABILITATION CENTER & SPECIAL SCHOOL, ALLAPRA, PERUMBAVOOR.  The visit to the special school was arranged as an Experiential Learning on the topic of Neurodevelopmental Disorders, which is a part of the CBSE curriculum.

A School always tries out the best practices and processes to enhance academic excellence, and socially responsible, and resourceful citizens capable of making the world a better place to live in. The field trip gave them a first-hand experience that would definitely help future psychologists to identify, and take a case history and various psychological testing practices to reach the correct diagnosis. 

OBJECTIVES OF THE VISIT:-

To make students aware of the challenges faced by the differently abled children.

To understand the various psychological testing methods in use to diagnose the exact problem

To gain a better understanding of the therapeutic procedures.

To take a case history.

To learn about the Rehabilitation practices.

To learn about the functioning of a child development centre.

To realize the importance of education in empowering the challenged group.


About the School:

Koinonia Mor Athanasius Rehabilitation center & Special School is a charitable institution meant for the upliftment of mentally challenged children and adults. Disabled individuals deserve proper care, protection, training, employment, and rehabilitation. It was founded by Bishop Mor Aphrem Mathews in 2013 in Perumbavoor, Ernakulam, to aid and guide differently-abled students. The School provides the most thorough, tailored strategies to assist each student in reaching their greatest potential in the least restrictive environment possible. They incorporate academic, behavioral, and emotional support to help children develop new skills and improve their talents and confidence.

JYOTHIS: 

Jyothis Center for Child Development started functioning in 2020. It works as a multidisciplinary team, which consists of a psychiatrist, a psychologist, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist, a speech therapist, and IEP trainers [Individualised Educational Plan]. 

They study each case thoroughly and discuss to find the ideal therapy and sessions for each one.

It was a great time for the learners to see the realities of the other side of life. They interacted with every inmate of MARC. Students arranged entertainment programmes, sang and danced with them. It was really an unforgettable experience. They realized that life is a challenge and everyone should have strong willpower to go ahead in life.
