On November 1st, we hosted a delightful and vibrant celebration combining Grandparents Day, Kerala Piravi, and Diwali, bringing together family, culture, and festivity in a day filled with joy and unforgettable memories.
The event commenced with our kindergartners warmly welcoming the grandparents, presenting a lovely welcome speech, a sweet welcome song, and dance by the preschoolers, a heartfelt tribute through dance and song performances. Following this, the teachers joined in with a special dance to honor our cherished grandparents, expressing love, respect, and admiration for them.
In the spirit of Kerala Piravi, we invited grandparents to participate in a traditional ramp walk, where they proudly showcased Kerala’s cultural attire and celebrated the formation day of the state. Diwali, which had been celebrated just a day prior, added an extra layer of festivity to the day’s events.
To bring the grandparents back to cherished memories of their younger days, we organized a series of fun-filled games and activities that everyone enjoyed thoroughly:
Coconut Leaf Toy Making: Grandparents crafted traditional toys from coconut leaves, recalling fond memories from their childhood days.
Saree Draping Challenge: Grandfathers were given sarees and had a two-minute challenge to drape them, showing their fun side and sharing plenty of laughs as they did the ramp walk.
Ponytail Challenge: Grandmothers got creative, using as many rubber bands as possible to make ponytails on their grandfathers’ heads, adding a touch of light-hearted competition.
Tower-Making Game: Teams competed to build the tower, engaging everyone in a spirit of teamwork and fun.
Peg Game: A dexterous game that had everyone’s attention and brought out the playful energy in our grandparents.
These activities were a joy to watch, and the room was filled with laughter as the grandparents took part in each game with enthusiasm. We also gave our honored guests the chance to take the stage to sing, dance, and share stories, creating a lively and interactive atmosphere.
The day was more than just a break from their routines; it was a gift of relaxation, laughter, and love—a chance to unwind from their busy schedules and share special moments with their families. As one grandparent shared, “Every day is filled with responsibilities until our children go off to work and the grandchildren to school. But today was a day of pure joy and relaxation—a memory we will cherish.”
This celebration of Grandparents Day, Kerala Piravi, and Diwali was a remarkable success, uniting family, culture, and festive joy. We are grateful for the presence of each grandparent, whose smiles and energy made this day truly special. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories that we hope to recreate again soon.
