On August 16, 2024, students from St. Peter's Senior Secondary School visited Bethesda Psychiatric Hospital and Bethsada Old Age Home to gain insight into mental health care and community service. At the hospital, they interacted with patients, learned about treatment options, and interviewed Dr. S. Shaji, who emphasized the importance of early intervention and community-based care. At the old age home, students were inspired by the women administrators' exceptional leadership skills and commitment to women empowerment.
They engaged with the elderly, gaining valuable insights into empathy, compassion, and effective communication. This field trip taught them essential life skills, such as empathy, teamwork, and critical thinking, as well as 21st-century skills like creativity, problem-solving, and global citizenship. The students returned with a newfound appreciation for the elderly and a deeper understanding of their impact on the community. They look forward to applying these skills to make a positive difference in the world around them.
