World Organ Donation Day

India's statistical data (as of 2018) shows that in response to the demand for 1.75 lakhs kidney transplants, only 8000 transplants were performed.

While 50,000 people dying of hepatic failure, only 1000 got liver transplant to survive. These statistics are even more grim in view of organs like heart, pancreas and lungs.

Organ donation is the process when a person allows an organ of their own to be removed and transplanted to another person, legally, either by consent while the donor is alive or dead with the assent of the next of kin. One organ and tissue donor can help transform the lives of more than 10 people. This relies on donors and their families agreeing to donate their organ and tissue after death.

In order to make students understand the importance of organ donation and how it could save millions of lives, Health Club of St.Peter's Senior Secondary School arranged a webinar on 13th August 2022 through Google Meet platform.

The webinar was arranged for 9th grade classes from 10.30 am - 11.30 am.

The class was taken by Mrs Shyama Albert, Chief Transplant Coordinator, Lourdes Hospital Kochi and the Discussion and Q & A Session was led by Dr Binu Upendran, Secretary, Association of Cochin Nephrologists.

The chairperson of the meeting was Mrs.Manila P.M and Giana Henry was the anchor.

Health Club members Caron Anna Biju did the Welcome Speech and Ethna Eldho did the Vote of Thanks. Selected group of students from all the 9th grades interacted with the presenters during Q and A session.
